Arsenal Bites The Dust At The Amex Stadium

At the Amex Stadium earlier today Arsenal missed the chance to close the gap on Manchester United in the race for Champions League qualification as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Brighton to further imperil their Champions League hopes.

While the major bulk of Arsenal team looked jaded and bereft of ideas, Bukayo Saka has been one of the Gunners' bright sparks this season and the 18-year-old demonstrated why with a wonderful curling effort crashing against the crossbar early on.

The winger then supplied a delightful pinpoint cross to Alexandre Lacazette, but the French striker couldn't put his feet right in time to tuck home and Brighton quickly scrambled clear.

Having lost Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari to injury against Manchester City in midweek, Arsenal's injury crisis worsened when goalkeeper Bernd Leno suffered a potentially serious knee injury. But more drama was to come afterwards.

The German had rushed off his line to collect a bouncing ball and consequently collided with Neal Maupay, with the stopper's screams of agony chillingly echoing around the Amex Stadium. Leno was stretchered off and replaced by Emiliano Martinez, who was forced into a fine stop just minutes after coming on for his injured colleague.

Aubameyang did get a rare sight of goal after a clever exchange with Alexandre Lacazette only to be denied by a superb last-ditch challenge from Aidan Webster to the relief of the home fans.

After a slow start to the second half, Arsenal began to show their pace on the counter with Saka sliding in Aubameyang, who finished with aplomb but the offside flag was raised - and a VAR replay showed he was only a few inches shy of being onside much to the Gunners chagrin.

Martinez had to be on hand to deny Maupay from point-blank range as both sides displayed their attacking threat. But an incisive breakaway from the visitors saw the deadlock broken after 67 minutes when Saka found Nicolas Pepe and the Ivorian struck a stunning curling effort into the top corner leaving the Brighton goalie helpless.

But alas Arsenal failed to build on their lead with Aubameyang twice denied and the Gunners paid the price for some sloppy defending from a set piece when Lewis Dunk prodded home from close range after Brighton worked a neat short corner.

Arteta sent on Kieran Tierney, Joe Willock and Reiss Nelson late on in a desperate attempt to find a winner, but it was Maupay who scored deep into injury time to win the game leaving the Gunners with a mountain to climb regarding Champions League qualification.

Breaking News! Godwin Obaseki Officially Decamps To The PDP

Finally, the much anticipated moment came earlier today Friday 19 June, 2020 as Governor Godwin Obaseki formally joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after his recent resignation from the All Progressives Congress.

He was received by the leadership of the party led by the state Chairman of the PDP, Hon Tony Aziegbemi.

He just arrived the state Secretariat of the PDP along 1st East Circular Road with many of his followers and appointees.

Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy had left the APC soon after his (Obaseki's) disqualification by his former party for alleged certificate "irregularities". The governor had since that setback through his comments and body language left no one in doubt as to what his next course of action would be.

His ongoing battle with his former mentor and confidante Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has become the stuff of political legend with both men battling for the political soul of Edo State leading up to this particular situation at this particular moment.

Only time will tell what the final outcome would be and who ends up as the winner or loser of this morbid yet gripping political soap opera. As always only one thing remains constant in the midst of all this brouhaha. There are no permanent friends or enemies in politics, only permanent interests.

Hushpuppi: A Pending Date With The EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that flamboyant Nigerian social media sensation and most-wanted hacker, Ramoni Igbalode, alias Ray Hushpuppi, recently arrested by the International Police (Interpol) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation( FBI), has considerable cases of cybercrimes being investigated by the government agency.

The spokesman for EFCC, Dele Oyewale, said in a statement made available to the media that the anti-graft agency “is familiar with grisly details of his money laundering transactions, involving many high-profile cybercriminals’ facing trial in Nigeria.

Dele Oyewale further said: “The Commission is engaging with the FBI in tracing the victims of his fraudulent transactions and other fraudsters having direct involvement with him.

“Local cybercriminals with money laundering networks with him, are also being investigated”.

It will be recalled that Hushpuppi was arrested on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, in the United Arab Emirates in connection with $35 million ventilator scam.

His flamboyant lifestyle and flaunting of luxury status symbols on social media had made him a celebrity with thousands of followers. Many had questioned the source of his apparent wealth in the past as it was obvious Hushpuppi had no physical business presence even though he claimed to be into real estate.

For now he's still a guest of the FBI and a lot of people (both friend and foe) are eagerly anticipating the outcome of the travails of the alleged big time scammer.

Rape Prevention Tips And Advice For Women

Due to the rising incidence of rape it has become pertinent for our dear ladies to learn how to remain safe or defend themselves from sexual predators.

Women can learn about rape prevention and use this knowledge to help them stay safe in many situations where sexual assault could occur. You can help prevent rape by taking these simple yet necessary steps:

Listen to your intuition when alone – Although you can never fully protect yourself from potential sexual assault, it's important that you avoid dangerous situations. Stay aware of your surroundings, avoid isolated public areas, walk with determination even if you're lost, trust your gut, keep your cell phone charged and with you, avoid going somewhere alone with a person you don't know well, don't use music headphones when walking alone.

Reduce risk in social situations – Go to parties and social events with a group of friends and stay with the group. Do not leave your drink unattended. This leaves a potential rapist an opportunity to slip a date rape drug in it. Take it with you to go to the ladies room or anywhere else, even for a short time. If you do leave it, just get a new drink. Do not accept drinks from a stranger or someone you just met.

Don't reveal too much on social media – Some social media platforms, such as Facebook and others, use GPS locating service to tell friends where to find you. But think about it, would-be sexual predators can use these tools to find you as well. Turn off the location feature of these mobile apps on your cell phone before going out.

Learn self-defense skills – Sexual predators understandably target and isolate “weak” prey for obvious reasons. Being skilled in martial arts like taekwondo or karate goes a long way in boosting self-confidence and personal safety. When a would-be rapist realizes that you are no easy picking he’d most probably beat a hasty retreat or possibly be apprehended by law enforcement agents.

Keep a pepper spray handy – Having a self-defense item like a pepper spray in your purse or bag should give you just that extra bit of protection from prowling predators. Practice using it a few times to get yourself well-acquainted with the gadget.

As a lady no matter where you find yourself always be wary and trust your instincts.

Odd Ball: 16th Century Plague That Made Its Victims Dance To Death!

In 1518, a “dancing plague” struck Strasbourg, Alsace. Also known as the “dance epidemic”, this weird condition took over 400 people’s bodies and made them dance without rest.

Some of these people even died of heart attacks, exhaustion or strokes. It all started in July of 1518 when one woman named Mrs. Troffea started dancing uncontrollably in the middle of Strasbourg.

She was later joined by 34 people and soon after the plague spread to around 400 people. At one point it would kill around 15 people a day.

Doctors and authorities realized this was not caused by supernatural causes and claimed this epidemic was due to “hot blood” but instead of treating the patients, doctors advised them to basically “dance it out” by building them a wooden stage.

It is believed that the modern marathon runner would not be able to survive this type of intense workout.

To this day scientists are not quite sure what caused this terrible epidemic, it might have been due to food poisoning caused by the toxic products of ergot fungi or it might have been a case of mass psychogenic illness.

Timo Werner Only Comes Second In World's Best Forwards According To Stats

Chelsea fans have every reason to be excited after the club finally confirmed the £53million signing of RB Leipzig star Timo Werner.

The 24-year-old will join the Stamford Bridge club in July after they met the German's release clause.

Werner, who scored his 32nd goal of the season in all competitions for Leipzig on Wednesday night, will stay in Germany until the end of the Bundesliga season.

While Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski steal much of the limelight when it comes to Bundesliga strikers, Werner has been consistently banging the goals in for some time now.

Since joining Leipzig in 2016, Werner has netted 93 in 154 games - with 32 of those coming this season.

And when it comes to being directly involved in league goals, Werner is one of the hottest strikers in Europe.

In fact, only Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has a better ratio of goals and assists.

Werner's 26 goals and eight assists in the league this season puts him second in the list, with his tally of 34 shared with Bayern Munich forward Lewandowski and Lazio sensation Ciro Immobile.

England starlet Jadon Sancho completes the top five, having been directly involved in 33 goals for Borussia Dortmund this season.

The imminent arrival of Werner is no doubt a huge boost for Blues boss Frank Lampard.

Werner has been clocked over 100 metres in a blistering time of 11.1 seconds - a stat which is likely to give Premier League defenders plenty to think about.
Due to his rapid pace, Werner has been nicknamed 'Turbo'.

The word also accurately describes his rise to the top - he became the youngest player to net a Bundesliga brace with a double for Stuttgart against Freiburg as a 17-year-old.

Mainz increased their chances of survival in the Bundesliga with a shock 2-0 win at Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.

Eintracht Frankfurt leapfrogged 10-man Schalke and into ninth with a 2-1 home victory.

Andre Silva and David Abraham struck and although Weston McKennie halved the deficit, Can Bozdogan's sending off for a second yellow card helped Frankfurt hold on for all three points.

Moanes Dabour scored twice while Ihlas Bebou came off the bench to net as Hoffenheim won 3-1 at Augsburg, whose goal from Ruben Vargas turned out to be a mere consolation.

La Liga: Atletico thrash Osasuna

Atletico Madrid are up to fourth in La Liga after cruising to a 5-0 win at Osasuna.

Joao Felix netted in either half, while Marcos Llorente came off the bench to add a third before fellow substitutes Alvaro Morata, the on-loan Chelsea striker, and Yannick Carrasco also got on the scoresheet.

Raul Garcia's penalty and Asier Villalibre's goal helped Athletic Bilbao to a 2-2 draw at Eibar, whose goals came from Kike and a spot-kick from Fabian Orellana.

Celta Vigo moved two points clear of the drop zone after a goalless draw at Real Valladolid.

The Ondo State Guber Race: The Jimi Odimayo Factor

It is a common belief that the future of any country depends upon her youths. If that is so then the phenomenon currently sweeping through the nooks and crannies of Ondo State is gearing up to be a very welcome development.

Omo'ba Jimi Odimayo is a man who needs little or no introduction in the sociopolitical and socioeconomical landscape of Ondo State. At first glance he strikes you as a dapper, urbane and quite affable young man with an easy smile belying a commanding presence. It is when you get closer to him that you realize that here is a youth whose passion to serve and improve the lives of many through various identified means is second to none.

Prince Okunjimi John Odimayo was born in the rustic town ot Ode-Irele, in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State on the 26th of August, 1980. He started schooling at the Anglican Primary School, Ode-Irele before proceeding to Arerin Grammar School, Ode-Irele where he obtained his senior school certificate. Jimi Odimayo later proceeded to the Yaba College of Technology where he also obtained his National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Accountancy. With the future in mind and great ambition in his heart he thereafter sought and became a Masters Degree in Corporate Finance holder from the University of Liverpool.

A certified Associate Member of the Institute of Shippers, Jimi Odimayo first job was as an accounts officer at Arcon Petroleum PLC in 2008 and by dint of hardwork and dedication to duty got promoted to the position of Head of Finance in 2009. With his eyes clearly on the future and heart set on the return of the glorious past of Ondo State, Omo'ba Jimi Odimayo is definitely a man on a mission. His visionary outlook to every significant aspect of life belies his relatively youthfulness. This has earned him a lot of supporters and admirers who see in him the present and future of Ondo State politics.

While several youth groups and bodies have adopted him as their choice candidate it is merely a question of time before other relevant demographic groups join the Odimayo Train. It is a fact that Ondo State can become the envy of other states in Nigeria and with Omo'ba Jimi Odimayo at the helm this would cease to be a dream but a reality. He can do it. All lovers and indigenes of Ondo State (young and old) must stand with Omo'ba Odimayo because surely as the sun must shine everyday Ondo State remains the Sunshine State.

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole - What Next For The Embattled Titan?

The crisis in the All Progressives Congress worsened on Tuesday when the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja upheld the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the APC national chairman after an initial stay.

But earlier on the same day, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, announced his resignation from the APC, citing the party’s decision to disqualify him from participating in the June 22 governorship primary as his reason.

In a unanimous judgment of a three-man panel led by Justice Eunice Onyemanam, the Court of Appeal affirmed the earlier March 4, 2020 order of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Jabi, Abuja, suspending Oshiomhole and barring him from continuing to parade himself as the national chairman of the party.

Recall that Justice Danlami Senchi of the FCT High Court had on March 4, 2020 suspended Oshiomhole as APC’s national chairman on the grounds that the party wrongfully continued to retain him in office while he was under suspension as a member of the party.

The suit was instituted before the FCT High Court by six applicants.

Together with the Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, and the Department of State Services, the six applicants were the respondents to appeal jointly filed by Oshiomhole and the APC.

The main suit leading to the order earlier suspending Oshiomhole was instituted before the FCT High Court by six applicants, including the Vice-Chairman of the party, North-East, Mustapha Salihu, and the Chairman of the party in Edo State, Anslem Ojezua.

The rest of the applicants are members Oshiomhole’s Ward 10 of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, Alhaji Sani Gomna, Oshawo Steven, Fani Wabulari, and Princewill Ejogharado.

The plaintiffs are loyalists of the Governor Godwin Obaseki in the state.

The ward executives had in November 2019 suspended the national chairman as a  member of the party for anti-party activities, a decision which the FCT High Court anchored the order suspending  Oshiomhole on November 2, 2019.

In compliance with the court order the security agencies had promptly taken over the national secretariat of the party in Abuja blocking Oshiomhole from accessing his office.

But Oshiomhole had through his team of lawyers led by Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), appealed against the court’s interlocutory order.

Following his application for stay of execution of the judgment, a three-man panel of the Court of Appeal led by by Justice Abubakar Yahaya had on March 16, 2020 halted the execution of the judgment by reversing Oshiomhole’s suspension, pending the hearing of his substantive appeal.

But the Justice Onyemanam-led panel, which was appointed to hear the substantive appeal, re-imposed the suspension in its judgment delivered on Tuesday.

The judgment was delivered hours after the hearing was conducted on Tuesday.

Oshiomhole, who was present in court, was represented by Damien Dodo (SAN). He did not grant any interview after the judgment.

Justice Mohammed Lamido, who delivered the lead judgment, said the lower court had rightly issued the order of suspension on March 4, 2020.

He resolved all the issues raised in the appeal against Oshiomhole.

He also ruled that the plaintiffs at the lower court who were the respondents in the appeal, placed sufficient materials before the lower court to warrant the granting of the interlocutory order.

“In these circumstances, the position taken by the lower court that the plaintiffs have made a case for the issuance of the interlocutory order  is proper and that part of the decision is hereby upheld,” Justice Lamido ruled.

On Oshiomhole’s contention about an alleged breach of his right to fair hearing, Justice Lamido held that contrary to his argument, the order issued by the lower court was for his suspension and not removal from office.

He said the November 2, 2019 decision of the party in Ward 10 in Etsako LGA suspending him from office was ratified by the local government and state executives.

He noted that Oshiomhole had duly filed a suit to challenge his suspension on December 9, 2019 but later withdrew it on an erroneous impression. He added it took him 72 days from the date of his suspension to file another suit to challenge his suspension by the party.

The judge ruled, “In the circumstances, I hold that the appellant’s right to fair hearing was not breached.

“The appeal is unmeritorious and it is hereby dismissed.”

Earlier in a separate judgment, Justice Onyemanam who led the panel had in a separate judgment affirmed another March 2, 2020 ruling of the lower court dismissing Oshiomhole’s preliminary objection challenging the lower court’s jurisdiction to hear the suit before it.

Justice Onyemanam resolved all of the four issues raised for the determination against Oshiomhole.

She held that the suit filed by the plaintiffs at the FCT High Court was not an abuse of court process.

She held that it was untrue that the plaintiffs had two pending suits on the same subject matter before the same court.

She noted that the plaintiffs had no intention to make use of the two suits, and in fact, withdrew the one marked FCT/HC/CV/2019.

“Unless we intend to stand the law and the established procedures on their head, there is no element of abuse in the instant case,” she ruled.

Resolving another issue against Oshiomhole, she ruled that the principle that a court was barred from interfering in the internal affairs of a political party, was not applicable in the case.

She also held that the plaintiffs had locus standi to institute the suit, contrary to Oshiomhole’s contention.

She held that it was untrue that none of the plaintiffs had any benefit to derive from the outcome of the suit.

She also ruled that the FCT High Court had the territorial jurisdiction to hear the case.

She held that, by virtue of the FCT High Court Civil Procedure Rules, the plaintiffs were right to file the suit before the court in Abuja, since Oshiomhole’s office was in Abuja and the national secretariat was located in Abuja.

Neither Oshiomhole nor his lawyer, Dodo, spoke with journalists after the judgment.

But the respondents’ lawyer, Mr Oluwole Afolabi, who spoke with journalists on the court premises hailed the judgment.

The governor, who announced his resignation from the APC in an interview with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja,  came down hard on the party’s national chairman, whom he accused of being behind his ordeal.

He said, “You remember that in my last tweet after my disqualification was announced by the APC, I said that I would make a decision after I have consulted with the leadership and my supporters in Edo State and also having informed the President.

“I am here today (Tuesday) to inform you that I have now decided, formally, to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress. Having done, that I will now announce in the next few days my specific line of action and what platform I will be contesting the governorship election on.”

When asked to state specifically why he resigned his membership of the party, Obaseki said, “I am sure that the whole country knows and is aware of what has gone on with me and the party chairman and the party leadership, which culminated in my disqualification as a governorship aspirant.

“Upon that unfortunate decision by the chairman of the All Progressives Congress, I have decided to go and seek my governorship aspiration on another platform.”

When the governor was asked if there were indeed inconsistencies in his credentials which was the basis for his disqualification, he replied, “Someone who hasn’t gone to school, who doesn’t have certificates himself, will not know and understand what inconsistencies in certificates are. That is the starting point.

“What is the inconsistency? There is no inconsistency in my certificates. The issue was in 2016, when I contested  governorship election. I could not find the originals of my certificates because I hadn’t required them for more than two decades.

“So, I deposed to an affidavit that I couldn’t find the originals. Subsequently, I found all the original copies of all my certificates and they are with me. So I don’t understand what is inconsistent about that.

“Maybe the inconsistency in the National Youth Service Corps certificate where he said an ‘i’ was missing at the end of my surname. But if you look at that, it was like a cursive, it was written in a cursive manner. So if that’s inconsistency for him, then it’s really sad that people of that quality are leading the Nigeria’s ruling party.

“For him, it was just to look for an excuse to take whatever decision he wants to take and it’s really sad that the party structure today gives him that sort of authority without checks. That is dangerous for any system or any institution.

“When you give authority and responsibility to people who don’t have character, people who do not have finesse and a sense of justice, then that institution is imperiled.”

He said the party chairman failed to provide a level playing field in the selection process, wondering the basis for disqualifying another aspirant, Chris Ogiemwonyi.

He stated, “You are afraid of people who are educated because you didn’t go to school. You are afraid of people who have something to offer because all you know to offer is brigandage, crisis.

“So for us, Nigeria has to move forward beyond some of the characters who are currently overseeing our political polity and they are scared. They are scared that when people of substance, when people who are proven, when people who have succeeded in other aspects of life come into politics, they will be history.”

Obaseki who refused to disclose the platform on which he would contest the election, claimed that his recent meetings with some state governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party were meant for him to learn from colleagues who have gone through similar experience.

Although Obaseki did not tell journalists the party he would join, there were clear indications on Tuesday that he was heading for the Peoples Democratic Party.

Obaseki  had on Sunday met two PDP governors – Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom – as part of consultations on his next  possible political move(s).

The PDP in Edo State on Monday said it was expecting Obaseki and his loyalists to join it. Also on Tuesday, the state deputy governor in Benin announced his resignation from the APC.

Deputy Governor Shaibu made the announcement during a press briefing, saying that his resignation from the ruling party took immediate effect.

When contacted, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena, said the governor  had a funny way of showing  that he was well-educated.

Nabena said, “Is betrayal the way Obaseki chose to show that he is educated? What is the difference between those who went to school and those who didn’t go to school? Is it that those who went to school always betray those who didn’t? Is that the way to show you are educated? If that is his own way of showing he is educated, it means he has a very long way to go.”

The dispute between  Obaseki and Oshiomhole came to a head on Friday when the APC screening committee for the party’s primary in Edo State disqualified the governor, citing contradictions in his credentials.

Following the appeal court judgment, the National Working Committee of the APC on Tuesday announced its Deputy National Chairman (South), Senator Abiola Ajimobi, as its acting National Chairman.

The APC, in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu in Abuja, said the NWC “has received the news indicating the Appeal Court has upheld the suspension of the Party’s National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole by an FCT High Court pending the determination of the substantive suit.

“Guided by advice from the Party’s legal department in line with the provisions of Section 14.2. (iii) of the Party’s constitution, the Deputy National Chairman (South), Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, will serve as the Party’s Acting National Chairman.

“According to Section 14.2. (iii),of the APC constitution, the Deputy National Chairman, North/South “Shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone”.

The immediate past governor of Oyo State had remained COVID-19 positive two weeks after being admitted at the First Cardiologist and Cardiovascular Consultants Hospital, Lagos which leaves a lot of uncertainty hanging in the air.

Rt. Honorable Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa: Leader, Visionary And Political Strategist.

Looking back at the advent of the restart of democracy in 1999, only a few members of the political class have been able to create enduring and all-inclusive political structures like Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa. This particular trait is by no measure a simple matter considering the kind of politics that is usually practiced within our shores.
Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa is a fNigerian lawyer, politician, member of All Progressives Congress and incumbent Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly. To say that he has taken the legislative arm of governance to greater heights in Lagos State would be stating the obvious. Working in harmonious tandem with the executive arm of government ably led by His Excellency Governor Babajide Sanwo-olu of Lagos State, a lot has been achieved in terms of delivering key measurable socioeconomic gains to the people of Lagos State.
He was born in Agege, a town in Lagos State southwestern Nigeria.
He had his primary education at St Thomas Acquinas Pry School, Surulere, Lagos before he proceeded to Archbishop Aggey Memorial Secondary school, Mushin, Ilasamaja, Lagos where he obtained the West Africa School Certificate. He received a bachelor's degree in Law from Lagos State University, Lagos in the year 2006.
In 1999, Rt. Hon. Obasa contested the seat of councilor at Agege Local Government under the Alliance For Democracy party and won, which he served between 1999 and 2002.
He re-contested for his constituency in the 2019 state election and was re-elected as member of the Lagos State house of assembly, becoming the first to be re-elected into office three consecutive times, and a fifth term record! Such a feat is in line with his personality and philosophy of life. As a person who is ready and willing to serve his constituency wholeheartedly it is no surprise that his followers and constituents remain satisfied with his political style and outlook.
In recent times, several online allegations were made against him in respect of some perceived financial improprieties relating to approvals for projects and other expenses but alas and unsurprisingly the allegations were exposed for what they were; a collection of non-truths designed to rubbish the name and reputation of the Honorable Speaker. Without much ado the Hon. Speaker was cleared of the frivolous charges and a vote of confidence passed by his discerning fellow legislative colleagues.
It is therefore fair to say that the future holds a lot of positives for Rt. Hon. Obasa politically and personally. When one is popular and revered within his domain and beyond then such a person is destined for even greater heights. With his calm demeanour and friendly smile, the Rt. Hon. Speaker exudes competence and sincerity which makes it easy for him to gain and retain followers and supporters everywhere he goes.
